Thomas Calder has probably read The Great Gatsby<\/em> one too many times, has certainly rewatched The Sopranos<\/em> more than he\u2019d like to admit, and has never listened to a song by The Walkmen that he hasn\u2019t liked. He\u2019s also the author of The Wind Under the Door<\/em> and earned his MFA in creative writing from the University of Houston. His short fiction was a semifinalist for the 2025 Doris Betts Fiction Prize and his forthcoming novel The Crave<\/em> was a finalist for the 2025 Santa Fe Writers Project Literary Award. Originally from South Florida, he now lives in Asheville, North Carolina, where both his parents grew up. His fiction, book reviews, and author conversations have appeared in Juked<\/em>, West Branch<\/em>, storySouth<\/em> and elsewhere. Along with writing fiction, he is the managing editor of Mountain Xpress<\/em>, an alt-weekly in Asheville, and the co-host of DRAFT: Artistry in Conversation with fellow author Tessa Fontaine.
